The brand new Blewbury Table Tennis Club has now been running for around five months. In that time we have had 21 really enjoyable Tuesday evening sessions. Over 50 people have come along to play – some only once or twice and others nearly every week.
We have been delighted to welcome players of widely differing ages – at least 8 – 85, and have had one expert tuition session from an ex-top 100 British Table Tennis player. We have a very relaxed approach to playing this beautiful game and people make up their own games (usually doubles) and some families come along and play together on one of our four borrowed tables.
We are extremely grateful to the four Blewbury families who have kindly loaned us their table tennis tables, and as the weather starts to improve we plan to return them to the gardens/homes where they normally reside. We have now raised enough money to buy two brand new tables of our own, and are on the lookout for support to buy two more tables as soon as we can. Can anyone suggest potential donors for this worthy cause?
We currently meet from 6-9pm every Tuesday in the Village Hall and at this stage we don’t have any membership scheme, so anyone is welcome to come along and join us whenever they like. We make a small charge for each session attended to help cover our equipment and hall rental costs. This is currently £5 for adults and £3 for Under 18s (with a maximum per family of £10), and we are hoping to reduce these charges soon once we have covered our start-up costs. Why not come along and give it a try? We welcome players of all standards and can offer tuition for beginners. Roger Murphy
