Apple juicing – August through October
Blewbury has a lot of apple trees! A few years ago we identified nearly 60 varieties in the village, and our community orchard has added another half dozen or so. Every year, from August through October, we use our shredder, press and pasteurisers to produce hundreds of bottles of delicious, pure apple juice. When pasteurised it keeps for up to a year. We’ll be announcing the dates of our public sessions soon, and if you have a lot of apples the kit can be hired for a small fee.
Gardenwatch survey – help map the UK’s gardens’ resources for nature
You have probably already heard that wildlife is struggling as our climate changes. If you watched Springwatch on BBC Two recently you will also know about Gardenwatch, a huge Citizen Science project aimed to help the UK’s wildlife survive. Gardenwatch is a collection of short surveys designed to discover what our gardens offer to wildlife. Find out what you can do by going to the BBC website: bbc.in/2QwUNPX. This page explains the four Gardenwatch ‘Missions’: short questionnaires about what your garden is like, about the birds and mammals you see and what they are doing, and about the worms and minibeasts in your soil (children will enjoy this one). 200,000 people have already taken part, and you have until the end of July to do your bit!
