36. Justus Corderoy, miller. He is still remembered in the village for his great strength. When taking flour up to the hill farms, he used to have two sacks in his donkey cart and, at the bottom of the hill, would lift one out and carry it on his back to relieve the animal. He never possessed a top coat and was out in all weathers yet lived until 79. His chief hobby was horticulture and he possessed what was probably the most remarkable collection of cactus plants in England. He died in 1911. |
