70. The Catherine Wheel. The two young men sitting on the horse trough are Claude Upstone and Wilfred Aldridge, which dates the picture at about 1908. Apart from its obvious purpose the trough was also used for reviving those who had imbibed too freely. The house on the right, now Cottrills, is Hall’s draper’s and china shop.


 

71. Meers Parcel. Until 1974 the room on the left was used as a doctor’s surgery. In the old photograph it was a sweetshop.
