Blewbury WI News

October 1, 2024

Are you new to the village and wanting to join in village life? Or been here for ages and now at a loose end? A great way to make friends and do interesting things is to join Blewbury WI. We generally meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Vale Room. Loads of things to do during the month – see diary below – Just join in as much or as little as suits you.

In addition to our village WI, we join in with events at a county level – these will be speakers and outings on a variety of topics.  Home & garden, combined arts, public affairs, culture & science plus a variety of coach trips and holidays.

Next main meeting is on Wednesday 23 October at 7.30pm in the Vale room of Blewbury Village Hall. We will be welcoming Dr Muriel Pilkington who will tell us about “The Mitfords in the Cotswolds”. Did they really live scandalous lives? The talk covers the life of David Mitford, his six daughters and one son. A fascinating account of childhood and upbringing and their lives as adults. With brains, beauty and a scathing sense of humour, the girls were heralded as celebrities before they did anything to merit it. They were on the fringes of the ‘Bright Young Things’ of the period.

If you’d like to come along with someone else or find out more, ring our Secretary, Joy, on 850543 or email blewburywi@gmail.com. Come as a visitor – give it a try – you will be made so welcome!
