55. Blewbury School 1909. Thanks to the long memories of Mr. Dick Prior and Mrs. Rose Smith, who appear in the photograph, is has been possible to name all but one of the pupils. Back row, left to right:— Raymond Greenough, Andrew Corderoy (from the Mill), Monty Green (from the Load of Mischief), ? Field, Prince Albert Edward Belcher, Monty Aldridge (son of the Watercress Grower), Claude Smith, and Baydon Smith. Middle Row.— Rose Upstone (Mrs. Smith in 1979) with ? Field and Harry Appleton standing in front of her, then Emily Greenough, Winnie Sheard, Hilda Harris, Doris Green, May Upstone, the one that got away!, Flossie Smith, Richard Prior, Aubrey Green with Mr. Thomas Smith the schoolmaster. Those sitting:— Monty Aldridge, Phyllis Aldridge, Elsie Sheard, Edith Webb, Mabel Walters, Celia Allen, Violet Greenough, Linda Green, Vera Prior, May Bennet and Wilfred Aldridge. Those in front are:— Alfred Busby, ? Field and Percy Barker. Tom Smith was schoolmaster and volunteer organist for many years. There is a plaque to his memory in the church. Rose Upstone later became his daughter-in-law. |
