56. Eli Caudwell, who farmeá at Ashbrook (see also nos. 5,6 & 7) was a great innovator. Here he is seen with a steam plough that bears the legend ‘John Fowler and Co., Engineers, Leeds ’. William Welch (see no. 74) is at the controls. Among Eli Caudwell’s other experiments was a water driven dynamo for electricity generation; this still exists although no longer in working order.
