Blewbury Players Anniversary

The Players celebrated their 50th anniversary in style with their production of The Wind in the Willows at Orchard Dene in July.

“The Wide World”, we were warned in the opening minutes of The Wind in the Willows, “is a topic we avoid.” And given the mayhem of the Wide World in 2026, who could argue with that? For two hours on a warm July evening, we needed only to remember that 2026 marks 50 years since the founding of the Blewbury Players, and that for their golden anniversary production they had invited us to share the garden of Orchard Dene with the creatures, human and otherwise, of former Blewbury resident Kenneth Grahame’s landmark work of children’s literature

Barn Dance

Saturday 17th October, 7:30pm, Village Hall

Open to all the family. Dancing (no skills required!) will be called to music by The Mad Hatters. Ticket prices are £15, with a reduced rate of £7 for those aged ten and under. This includes a two-course hot supper. A lovely evening of enjoyment for all the family. The village hall bar will be available for drinks. Music at St Michael’s Church

Sunday 13th September, 5:30pm

This time we have extremely talented singer song writer Charlie Wood performing with Dave Wilkinson (guitar) and Caspar St Charles (drums). Charlie tours the UK regularly and appears at many of the top venues, giving great performances of a wide genre from soul, blues and jazz to appreciative audiences. As always, your support to these events is so much appreciated. Your attendance and enjoyment keeps live performing artists like Charlie working,
and at the same time you will be supporting our efforts to cover the costs of maintaining our historic village church.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Mary Gaines and friends are holding yet another Macmillan Coffee Morning at 9 Westbrook Green from 10.30 am. Auditions for A Christmas Carol – Blewbury Players

Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September

We looking for an ensemble cast and inviting those interested to join group workshop auditions. There will be a handful of ensemble roles for children school year 6 and above. Rehearsals will be mainly at weekends starting 3rd October. There will be some group singing at auditions. Singing roles are optional. To book an audition contact us at blewburyplayers@gmail.com.

New Unitary Authorities

The Government has announced its reorganisation of local government, following the consultation earlier this year.

Blewbury will fall under a new unitary authority called Ridgeway, which will take on the roles currently fulfilled by Vale of White Horse District Council and Oxfordshire County Council. Details are at https://3councils.org.

Blewbury Pre-School to close

Following careful consideration and the completion of the necessary consultation and decision-making process, it has been agreed that Blewbury Pre-School will close at the end of the Autumn Term in
December 2026.

Separately, Blewbury C of E Primary School will be opening a new early-years provision for children from two years old from January 2027. This will mean that children currently attending the Pre-School will have the opportunity to continue attending an early-years setting within the village. The new provision will be run by the Primary School and is separate from Blewbury Pre-School.
