Minutes of the Blewbury Annual Parish Meeting held on Wednesday 15th May 2024 from 7pm in the Blewbury Village Hall

Annual Meeting of the Parish – Facilitated by the Parish Council.

This meeting was preceded by the Blewbury Village Society Annual General Meeting

There were approximately 38 people in attendance.
  1. Dermot Mathias, Parish Council Chairman, opened the meeting with a brief overview of the Parish Council’s year, & an explanation of how the meeting & discussions would be organised. He also invited anyone who wanted to briefly talk through their report at this point, to do so.

 

2. Round table discussions, divided between Environment, Recreational Activities, Finances and Local Government accompanied by written reports (where available), bringing together the following: –

  9. Malthus Trust
  10. Blewbury School (Roger Murphy)
  11. Blewbury Pre School
  12. Blewbury Local History Group (Audrey Long)

  14. Oxfordshire Wildlife Rescue (Anni Byard & Luke)
  15. Speed Watch
  16. Sustainable Blewbury (Anne Millman)
  17. BlewShed (Mike Magnay)
  18. St Michaels (Annie Casey)

  20.    Blewbury Bridge Club (Michael Alan/Chair)

3. Summary of discussions & ideas

Attendees were invited to summarise their thoughts & suggestions.

3.1 The placing of the community artwork in the Play Close – it was generally felt that residents are happier with the location now.

3.2 Parking at the top of South Street & the A417 crossing by Savages remain hot topics.

3.3 To hold the Clubs & Societies Day every year or two, & for there to be a page on the web site dedicated to Clubs & Societies.

3.4 Improve Communications across platforms by pulling out key items (i.e. the precept) as a ‘front page’ item.

3.5 Other suggestions included:-

– Posters on lampposts

– Weekend afternoons a better time to hold a meeting

– The Bulletin is not read by some demographics, but make more use of it i.e. front page news/key points from Council meetings.
